It is what we do when we arrive at a new situation, problem, concept or idea that doesn’t fit with what we already know. If that something is important, if it matters to us on a personal level then we begin the process of learning. When we encounter this type of learning motivation is easy.
In Year Six we study Big Ideas. Concepts and ideas that matter.
At the highest level we have Throughlines. Concepts that apply to learning in many situations and that will be relevant time and time again.

MATHS
In Term Three the focus of Mathematics shifts slightly to the physical world as we explore firstly Three Dimensional Space as it applies to the work of the mathematician. We then look at the interconnected concepts of Volume, Capacity and Mass. We finish the Term with an exploration of problem solving with Fractions. Throughout the Term you will again have opportunities to improve your understanding of Number and strategies for Working Mathematically.
VISUAL ARTS
This Term students will look at human emotions and how they can be interpreted by using colour, line and shape in a three-dimensional mask. Masks play an important part in many cultures and artforms and we will spend time studying a variety of masks as inspiration for our work. Students will choose an emotion and design a mask to show that particular emotion and then use ceramic to give their design physical form.
Through this unit students will be shown various ceramic techniques from shaping to glazing and firing. They will learn how to manage all aspects of the ceramic making process and understand the technicalities that an artist must consider when working in this medium.
